Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta, has hailed teenage winger Max Dowman, after he became the youngest player to start for the north London club during the Gunners’ 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Brighton on Wednesday night.

The 15-year-old, who set the new record with the start, was impressive for Arsenal as goals from Ethan Nwaneri and Bukayo Saka ensured the club’s progress to the quarter-final stage of the cup competition.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Arteta praised Dowman’s composure and skill.

“For him, everything is natural; everything is okay; it’s the way he plays,” the Spanish tactician said. “I think that is the secret, that he doesn’t make a big fuss of it.”

Arteta added that Dowman plays with “a lot of courage and determination,” and shows incredible skill.

“He just does what he does best, which is to play football, to play football with a lot of courage and determination, and today again he’s shown some incredible skill, some capacity to run past players at that level in the Premier League at 15. It’s something definitely special.”

Arsenal’s next game is against Burnley in the Premier League this weekend.
