Arsenal returned to the summit of the Premier League (PL) after briefly losing it to Manchester City with an emphatic 3-0 win over Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The Gunners had started the weekend top of the table but dropped to third after Manchester City and Tottenham won on Saturday.
They opened the scoring as early as the 17th minute when William Saliba climbed high to head Bukayo Saka’s corner in off the post.
Arteta’s men then doubled their goal tally in the 28th minute when Gabriel Jesus headed Granit Xhaka’s measured chip past David Raya to score his fourth league goal for Arsenal.
Portuguese midfielder Fabio Vieira capped a dominant Arsenal display by marking his first Premier League start since joining from Porto with a goal from 25 yards to make it 3-0 to Arsenal.
Brentford were unbeaten in their previous three games and could have climbed to fifth in the table with a win, but they rarely threatened as forward Ivan Toney, who has been called up by England for the first time, struggled for service.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank after the game told Sky Sports: “We lost 3-0, to the number one in the Premier League. I said before they are a top side. I think we performed quite well, not 10/10 but if you want to win or get something out of the team flying, you cannot concede the first from a set piece and then the second one.
“In general, unless it is something unbelievable brilliance from a set-piece, I want us to avoid every set-piece goal. There are some few bits we could have done better for the second. They didn’t create that many chances but had quality in moments.
“We always want to play again but we have the international break, we deal with it and train with the players we have. I wish the players who are going away good luck.
“We lost the game, I hate losing.
“They are top of the table so you cannot argue with that, they have done brilliant. Looking at the quality, they must be title contenders.”
Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri became the youngest ever Premier League player aged 15 years and 181 days as the Gunners defeated Brentford to return to the top of the table.
