A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who resigned his appointment from Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s cabinet on Thursday, Elder Peter Babalola, (aka Peter Power), yesterday defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with his political followers numbering 8,850 members.
The defected exercise, which was carnival like took place at the PDP Secretariat, Bucket area of Osogbo amidst joy and happiness. Speaking at the event, Babalola described APC as a dictatorial party, which always impose candidates on members. He frowned at the way and manner they frustrate party members when it comes to right claiming and condemned the act he described as undemocratic and oppressive.
The former APC chieftain who argued that real democratic practices are lacking within the party circle, described APC’s future as bleak. Babalola, therefore, assured the party members of working for the progress of his new party, especially in the forthcoming election in the state. While receiving the defectors into the PDP fold, the party Chairman, Soji Adagunodo, assured them that the party would embrace them without discrimination, saying they would all be carried along in the scheme of things. He, however, appealed to them to work for the success of the party in the September 22 governorship election in the state. Adagunodo expressed optimism that the party would outsmart other political parties in the contest going by its reliability to God and its political structures which remain as solid as ever.
