Real Madrid manager Alvaro Arbeloa has attributed his team’s 2-1 loss to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich—in their Champions League quarter-final first-leg tie in Spain—to two costly errors.

The Spanish tactician made this known on Tuesday night while addressing reporters during his post-match interview.

Two goals from Luis Díaz and Harry Kane in the 41st and 46th minutes respectively sealed the win for the German champions.

Despite reducing the deficit through Kylian Mbappé in the 74th minute, Real Madrid have a mountain to climb ahead of next week’s return leg.

Speaking after the encounter, Arbeloa noted that his team could have avoided the narrow defeat with luck on their side.

However, he admitted that two specific slip-ups proved fatal against Vincent Kompany’s side.

He said: “This is a defeat we perhaps could have avoided in the second half with a bit more luck.

“We faced a great team, and we knew it. We made two mistakes—two turnovers—which we had discussed before the match and during half-time that we needed to avoid.”
