Appeal court nullifies Olisa Metuh’s seven years’ conviction

-

The Appeal Court has declared the conviction of former Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) spokesman, Olisa Metuh, null and void.

In a ruling today December 16, the appellate court says the trial judge, Justice Okon Abang, exhibited bias throughout the proceedings against Metuh.

The court therefore ordered for a fresh trial, thereby nullifying the seven years imprisonment slammed on the former PDP’s spokesman who has been in prison in the last ten months.

Metuh was convicted by Justice Okon Abang on february 25, 2020 and sentenced to seven years imprisonment on a seven counts of money laundering and criminal diversion of funds to the tune of N400 million.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed the seven count charges against Metuh, alleging that he received the N400 million from the office of the national security adviser.

Okon Abang pronounced Metuh guilty of all the counts of money laundering and sentenced him to seven years in prison early this year.

But the Appeal court says the judge was biased against Metuh, hence the conviction was declared null and void.
