The family of Mr and Mrs Femi Ologun has been named Couple of the Year at the 2025 Couple’s Conference of the Apostolic Faith Church in Akure, an event themed “U-TURN: Navigating an Intentional Path to a Stronger Home.”
The theme, chosen by the West and Central Africa (WECA) region of the church, set the tone for a gathering focused on rebuilding and strengthening marriages through deliberate choices and renewed commitments.
The Ologuns emerged winners after attending the conference series for three consecutive years, a consistency organisers say has had a “visible and positive” impact on their marriage. The award was presented by Mrs Rachael Aro, wife of the Ondo State Area Overseer, and included a cash gift.
Mr and Mrs Akinyode took second place, while the honour for Best Newly Wedded Couple in year 2025 went to the Osogbon family.
However, the Oldest Couple Award, marking 60 years of marriage, was presented to Pa Ojo Ajigbotoso Fagbamigbe and Mrs. Lydia Mopesola Fagbamigbe.
Addressing the congregation, the Area Overseer, Reverend Joseph Aro, commended the participants for their dedication to nurturing stable homes.
He noted that this year’s conference drew inspiration from U-TURN, a film produced by the Apostolic Faith Church headquarters in Lagos, which explores the redemptive power of intentional choices within marriage.
Reverend Aro urged couples to “make the necessary turns, no matter how difficult toward peace, love and understanding,” adding that strong families remain the backbone of the church and wider community.
Participants also engaged in workshops led by family counsellors and church leaders, focusing on communication, conflict resolution and the spiritual foundations of marriage. Many attendees described the sessions as “timely,” especially amid rising pressures facing modern households.
The conference concluded with a renewed call for couples to become role models within their congregations. Organisers emphasised that the awards were not merely celebratory but intended to inspire other families to invest consistently in building healthier, more resilient relationships.
