APGA crisis: Oye regains seat as Obiano intervenes

-

The Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, may have resolved the crisis rocking the party following an all-night-meeting that restored Chief Victor Ike Oye as national chairman on Tuesday.

It was however gathered that there were some opposing voices to Oye’s restoration but the majority of those in attendance voted in favour.

A member of APGA Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka of Rojenny fame, confirmed that the board had  reaffirmed the national leadership of the party led by Dr Victor Oye.

Ezeonwuka said that Obiano had summoned a meeting of the board to address some of the issues in the party including the purported sack of Oye and other officers on October 6.

According to him, the BoT assessed the recent misunderstanding in the meeting held at Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia and arrived at the conclusion that the action was unnecessary, and that they had to ‘let sleeping dog lie’.

He said: “The national leadership of APGA got the blessing of the BoT during our meeting in Awka yesterday.

“Dr Victor Oye remains the chairman and there was no need for such misunderstanding. The people that had misunderstanding were asked to allow peace to reign.

“We do not want what is happening in PDP and APC to come into APGA.

“The fact is that their action was unconstitutional; there are internal mechanisms for resolving these issues, and so the important thing is that the crisis has been maturely handled.

Oye described the outcome of the BoT meeting as “a successful reconciliation which was a sign that the party was still on its path to greatness”.

He said that he was committed to reconciling every aggrieved member of APGA as well as taking it to the next level as one of the most formidable parties in Nigeria.

“The meeting which was convened yesterday by the chairman of the BoT was interventionist in nature; we had in attendance all the members of the national working committee except two and a good number of BoT members.

“The atmosphere was friendly in spite of disagreement by a motley few. “Everybody had the opportunity to ventilate his/her grievances but at the end of the day we agreed that we should all work in peace for progress of APGA.

“We used the opportunity to call on those responsible for the misunderstanding by creating problem where there was none to sheathe their sword.

“As the father of the party, I see everybody as important and treat them equally and that is a fundamental principle of APGA.

“I am committed to sustaining the vision of the founding fathers of the party.

“I am also developing my own initiative to take it to the next level, so for us it is consolidation”, he concluded.

It was however learnt that Obiano might have paid through the nose to assuage feuding members of the National Working Committee and BoT.
