APC set trap for defecting Osun lawmakers – Adeleke’s aide
By Jeffrey Agbo
Hezekiah Bamiji, the Senior Special Adviser on Media to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has criticised the defection of two Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a strategic blunder.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday, Bamiji said the lawmakers—Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East) and Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central)—acted on unverified rumours that Governor Adeleke was planning to leave the PDP.
“Maybe what I can say is a kind of miscalculation on the part of the lawmakers. The rumour perhaps overwhelmed them, thinking that the governor was coming, they felt that they were Abuja politicians and should be faster than the governor,” Bamiji said.
He emphasised that Adeleke remains firmly rooted in the PDP as its leader in Osun, adding that the senators should have sought guidance before making such a consequential move.
“The governor is the leader of the party in Osun State. I felt they should have consulted with their leader and perhaps also the people in their various constituencies, but I am not sure that was done.
“Even if the governor was going to move, did they ask the governor any questions? Yes, the APC set a trap for them, and they entered,” he added.
Bamiji further insisted that Governor Adeleke has no need to switch parties to effectively govern Osun State and deliver on his mandate.
The two senators were part of a group of four PDP lawmakers who officially joined the APC on Wednesday, bolstering the ruling party’s strength in the Senate to 70 members, while reducing the PDP’s seats to 28.
