APC, PDP caucuses hold emergency meetings

-

APC holds a crucial national convention on February 26, which some stakeholders are already shooting down even before takeoff

Senators belonging to the All Progressive Congress (APC) Caucus would be holding a meeting today immediately after the plenary.

Also billed to hold an emergency meeting immediately after the plenary is the caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The notice of the meeting was conveyed in two separate letters signed by the Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi and the Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe.

The letters were read by the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege who presided over the plenary on Tuesday.

Abaribe, in the letter, disclosed that the PDP caucus meeting which is scheduled to hold at 2 pm is between PDP Senators and members of the PDP Board of Trustees.

It is not clear what the agenda of the two meetings are, except for speculations that it may not be unconnected with the 2023 scheming.

The APC holds its long-awaited national convention to elect a national chairman for the party and other National Working Committee (NWC) on February 26.

Some stakeholders in the APC have been clamouring for the postponement of the February 26 national convention.

One group, the APC Youth Development and Progressive Forum said some northern governors have hijacked the APC, pushing for a convention that could ultimately destroy the ruling party.

The group made its position known at a press conference in Abuja calling on its members and other party faithful to boycott the exercise.

It said a boycott is the “only way of saving the day now as it has become apparent that the cabal of some northern governors has shredded the last vestige of democracy around them to give reign to full-blown dictatorship in the APC.”

The PDP faces the tough choice of whether to zone the presidency to the South or leave it open and risk losing the loyal support it has enjoyed over the years from the South East, which hopes that the ticket of the party will be theirs this time.
