The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday mourned the death of some of its supporters following a stampede during President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign rally at the the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo, Taraba State.
A statement by the national publicity secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, on Thursday evening said the party was deeply pained by the painful loss and prayed for the repose of the dead and fortitude of their loved ones to bear the loss.
The statement read: “The All Progressives Congress (APC) mourns the death of some of our supporters following a stampede at our Next Level re-election campaign rally for our candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari held at the Jolly Nyame Stadium in the Taraba State capital, Jalingo.
“Our great party is deeply pained by this painful loss. We pray for the dearly departed and express our deep condolences to their family members, loved ones and the good people of Taraba State.”
The party, which was silent on the number of casualties, also prayed for the speedy and full recovery of supporters “who suffered injuries in the sad incident caused by overcrowding.”
The party promised that henceforth, it will ensure that improved crowd control measures were put in place to “as much as possible prevent a reoccurrence this sad incident.”
