The All Progressives Congress (APC) has come to the defence of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo over his absence at the funeral of Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru who died in an aeroplane crash on Friday, May 21 in Kaduna.
The APC, in a tweet via its handle @APCNigeria, claimed that Osinbajo couldn’t have attended Attahiru’s burial because President Muhammadu Buhari who is the Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) delegated Bashir Magashi, the Defence Minister as his representative at the event.
The APC said in the tweet”: “The usual suspects have once again tried to drag VP Osinbajo for not attending the late Army Chief’s funeral, forgetting that in such events it’s normally the Commander in Chief that decides who represents him & on this occasion the C-in-C was represented by the Defence Minister.”
The party also argued: “VP only represents the Commander in Chief if he so delegates. Recall the VP already issued a statement where he noted that he received the news of the death of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru, and other military officers in an air crash with great sadness.”
Buhari has been receiving knocks for missing the burial of his Army Chief in Abuja.
His critics wondered how he could find the time to travel to France for a summit but unable to be in the funeral of his Army Chief who died on duty.
The knocks was also extended to Osinbajo who also was not at the event
