Anyaoku rallies support for talented youths in sports

Anyaoku said: “For 15 years, I have been advocating for youth empowerment through sports, it shaped my youth back in the days, I played football, I played in my school team, I was also involved in athletics 400m to be exact, I think that’s the way to go in this era where jobs are scarce.”

Former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, has reiterated his love for sports, especially grassroots soccer and calls for support.

During an interview with the sage who will turn 90 in January 18th 2023, Anyaoku said sports is one of the avenues where talents and hardwork produce results.


Speaking on his pet project, the Emeka Anyaoku U-15. inter-state grassroots soccer competitions which hold on September 18th 2022, at the Campus Square mini Stadium in Lagos, Chief Anyaoku added that until Nigerians learn how to work hard like sportsmen and women, it would be extremely difficult to achieve much.


“I support grassroots soccer Competitions because Youths learn hard work, patience and discipline. For 15 years I have been supporting youth engagement in soccer, it helped in shaping my youth, I played football, I played in my school team, I was also involved in athletics 400m to be exact, I think that’s the way to go in this era where jobs are scarce. I believe if more resources are committed to sports and education, Nigeria will start to work again.”


He noted that for the country to excel, youths must be part of sports, economic and socio-cultural engagement and development of any government in Nigeria.


The Adazie of Obosi also averred for the grassroots U-15 boys soccer competitions to be supported pointing out that plans are on to establish an endowment fund to keep it going.

He appreciates friends and well wishers that usually indentify with the competition and demanded more for the sake of huge sports talents in Nigeria.


He however invites friends and well wishers to attend the 15th edition of the inter State competition at the Campus Square mini Stadium on September 18, 2022.
