Anyachebelu emerges Anambra’s substantive Chief Judge

-

The Anambra State House of Assembly has confirmed Justice Onochie Anyachebelu as substantive Chief Judge of the state.

The House received a letter from Gov. Willie Obiano requesting for his confirmation.

The confirmation is sequel to a motion moved by Majority Leader of the House, Nnamdi Okafor (Awka South I) and seconded by Deputy Majority Leader, Emeka Aforka (Orumba North) during plenary on Feb. 11.

Okafor asserted that the governor’s request was in compliance with provisions of section 271 sub-section (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The House on confirmation of the request, adopted a report presented by the House Committee on Screening and Election Matters, which recommended Anyachebelu’s confirmation.

The Speaker, Uchenna Okafor, who presided over the plenary read out the confirmation of Justice Anyachebelu’s appointment, while the lawmakers unanimously adopted it through voice votes.

Speaking shortly after his confirmation, Justice Anyachebelu re-assured the lawmakers that he would strive to improve access and speedy dispensation of justice, especially as it affected criminal matters in the state.

He said that he had been in acting capacity for some months now, noting that the greatest challenge of the judiciary was paucity of funds, promising to use available funds to make the state judiciary better.
