ANACOWA disobeys court order, elects officers

-

Despite a court injunction stopping the election of the principal officers of the Association of Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association (ANACOWA) Lagos State, an affiliate of the Road Transport Employers Association (RTEA), a faction of the group has imposed its officers.

It was learnt that the court order (BB/803GCM/2015) issued by the Badagry High Court to stop the election billed for Friday, October 30 was snubbed when the bailiff went to the secretariat to serve it on Thursday, October 29.

Rasaq Adisa is the plaintiff.

The defendants are Musa Mohammed, registered trustees of Road Transport Owners Association, registered Trustees of ANACOWA, and Suleiman Raji.

The chairmanship race was between Raji and Rasaq Adisa.

A faction of ANACOWA loyal to Adisa has cried foul on the emergence of Raji, as they told TheNiche that it is a “kangaroo election” as it was manipulated to favour Raji and was a blatant disobedience of the court order.

A member of the faction, who identified himself simply as Lekan told TheNiche that “the emergence of [Raji] is unacceptable to us and we want the government to intervene.

“We wanted to obey the court injunction but the [Raji] group disobeyed and went along to conduct their kangaroo selection. I hope the court will ensure that justice takes it cause.

“We cannot accept the kangaroo selection that took place at our secretariat at Akesan, Igando. We will resist it and we want the Lagos State government to intervene before we start causing havoc.”

Adisa also insisted that “what took place is unacceptable and I think the court should not take kindly to it that its order was violated.

“We want to be law abiding but if we cannot get justice from the courts then we will go the confrontational way. I hope nobody will blame us then.”
