The Kano State Hisbah Board has announced the confiscation of 3,600 bottles of alcohol, the item contributing the most to the Valued Added Tax (VAT).
VAT is a consumption tax that Abuja collects and shares to all the 36 states, including those hostile to sale of alcohol in their domain.
Rivers and Lagos states have spearheaded the legal tussle to domesticate VAT. Lagos contributes 55 per cent of national VAT, a large chunk of it comes from alcohol.
But the Kano State government has criminalised the sale and consumption of alcohol in the state.
Its morality police, Hisbah, said today, September 13, that it intercepted truck carrying 3,600 bottles of beer covered with bags of chicken feed.
According to the Hisbah operative who led the seizure, the truck was moving from Kwanar Dangora to Kiru when it was intercepted.
