American singer, Saint Jhn denies copying Afrobeats star, Rema

Saint Jhn, however, acknowledged that the Nigerian music star is a talented singer

Guyanese-American singer and rapper,
Carlos St. John Phillips aka Saint Jhn, has denied claims that popular Nigerian afrobeats star, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema influenced his music.

The ‘Brown Skin Girl’ crooner issued the disclaimer after a fan said his latest afro-themed single, ‘Humble’ was heavily influenced by Rema.

Taking to social media platform X, the fan tweeted: “I hear Rema’s influence on the new Saint Jhn.”

Responding to the claim, Saint acknowledged that Rema is a talented singer, but argued that he has not listened to his music enough to desire copying his style. 

“Nah, he’s dope. But I haven’t heard enough to be influenced.” the song star said.

Saint Jhn is best known for the 2019 remix to his 2016 song “Roses”. The remix, which was produced by Kazakh DJ Imanbek, reached the top 5 of the US Billboard Hot 100 and topped the charts in Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, Ireland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

He has also written songs for artistes including Kanye West, Jidenna, Usher,  Hoodie Allen, and Kiesza, among others.

He is a founding member of the music collective Gødd Complexx.
