Creflo Dollar, however, told his congregants that he’s not suggesting that Christians should water down their act of giving, but to give according to their ability.

Multimillion-dollar American preacher, Creflo Dollar, has made a U-turn on tithing, saying he misled his congregation on the topic for many years.

Over the years, Creflo Dollar has written books and made video recordings about the obligation for Christians to pay tithe in their churches. But last Sunday, he publicly retracted his views on tithing, confessing that he has misled people with these teachings, stating that it was not biblical to tithe but up to individuals to offer according to their heart and ability.

Creflo Dollar has been known as a prosperity theologian. He has long been criticized for living a lavish lifestyle. He owns two Rolls-Royces, a private jet, and high-end real estate such as a million-dollar home in Atlanta, a $2.5 million home in Demarest, New Jersey, and a home in Manhattan that he bought for $2.5 million in 2006 and sold for $3.75 million in 2012.

Creflo Dollar said he has been preaching the wrong gospel when it comes to tithes, stressing that tithing is Old Testament teaching and no longer relevant for New Testament believers.

Creflo Dollar made the confession during his Sunday sermon titled, “The Great Misunderstanding” where he cited Romans 6: 14. That scripture reads: “For sin shall not have dominion over you; for ye are not under the law but under the grace.”

He, however, told his congregants that he’s not suggesting that Christians should water down their act of giving, but to give according to their ability.
