After losing two of its promising players, Godspower Aniefiok and Kufre Ebong, Team Manager of Akwa United FC of Uyo, Akpaidem Frederick has charged other players in the team to sit up.
Aniefiok penned new deal with Kano Pillars FC and Ebong joined Warri Wolves.
Frederick said: “I can confirm to you that Ebong and Aniefiok are no longer players of Akwa United, as they have now agreed terms with Warri Wolves and Kano Pillars.
“I am very happy for both of them, and I am sure their progress so far will serve as motivation to the younger players who are coming up and aspiring to play on the big stage. I wish them all the best as they open new chapters in their careers.”
Both youngsters who, before last season were unknown in the Globacom Nigeria Premier League circle, joined Akwa United from Greater Tomorrow Sport Academy, and under the tutelage of Coach Patrick Udoh rose to become important members of the squad that finished 13th with 14 points.
The move means that the players have now been handed the opportunities to showcase their abilities on the continent, as Frederick and his Pillars teammates prepare to face Malakia in a CAF Champions League preliminary round tie, while Ebong will brace up for a Confederations Cup preliminary round fixture against RCB of Burkina Faso with his new side, Warri Wolves.
