Akpabio, Amosun step down, back Tinubu

Ex-Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio, has step down for former Lagos State governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, at the ongoing presidential primary of the party holding in Abuja.

Akpabio said he was stepping down for Tinubu, saying , “I want to step down for the next president of Nigeria.”

After his announcement, Mr Akpabio asked delegates of his state and others across other states to vote for Mr Tinubu.

“I will join the next president with a vision. And as I withdraw now, I urge all the delegates, the delegates from Akwa Ibom State and all others to vote for Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu,” he said amidst cheers from the crowd.

Speaking later after, former Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun said, “I want to follow the footstep as my brother has done,” referring to Godswill Akpabio who also stepped down for Tinubu.

Amosun said he is withdrawing from the All Progressives Congress’s presidential primary to endorse his brother Bola Tinubu.

“He’s no stranger to me. We have been around for a very long time. I asked all my supporters here to vote for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

Amosun argued that his decision was in the spirit of consensus-building.

He thanked the northern APC governours of the party for their resolution to push for the return of the presidency to the Southern part of the country.
