TheNiche earlier reported that the Senegalese-American singer recently shared his thoughts on Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy.

Akon applauded the three singers’ efforts at taking Afrobeats from its root in Africa to the international scene, saying these Nigerian music stars have different strengths.

In an interview with famous American Radio host, Sway, the American star described Wizkid as a superstar and a born star, he went on to call Burna Boy a beast, while also labelling Davido an underdog.

He, however, left social media buzzing after describing the DMW label boss as an underdog that fought hard to be where he is today and then linked his success to his wealthy family background.

Akon said, “So, Davido was the underdog. But he had the support of a wealthy family so he was able to come up every week with a new song and a new video. So he just kept coming. He has more songs than any Afrobeats singer.

“He beats the others with quantity versus quality. So he had his method… Everybody has their method.”

After the video made the rounds on social media, some Nigerians shared Akon’s sentiments on Davido, saying his rise to fame was due to his father’s wealth and connections.

However, a lot of netizens, especially the singer’s fans disagreed with the veteran American singer and such innuendos, claiming the ‘Omo Baba Olowo‘ crooner became successful because of his talent and hardworking.
