As Tension enveloped the ancient Owo community in Ondo due to the ongoing violent cult clashes and security disturbances, the State Governor, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has ordered a dawn-to-dusk curfew in the town, till further notice.
Already about five people have lost their lives during the fracas. This includes a former youth leader of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Owo, Fisayo Oladipupo who was shot dead in the early hours of Monday by suspected cultists.
In retaliation, suspected cultists loyal to the slain APC chieftain allegedly shot four persons including two people who were affected by stray bullets.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan stated that all residents are required to remain indoors during the curfew.
The Governor said only essential services, such as hospitals, emergency services, and law enforcement, will be exempted from the curfew.
“The Governor has also asked security agencies in the State to enforce the curfew, ensure safety of lives, properties, arrest perpetrators of the violence and restore peace to the community.”
