  • By Amos Okioma

Indigenous oil and gas giant, Aiteo, has reassured the people of Bayelsa state and the general public of its unwavering commitment to the sustainable development of its host communities and has commended the people of Nembe community for agreeing to disband the barricade to the Aiteo’s logistic base which has interrupted normal work.

It is instructive that this development is coinciding with the resumption of the NCTL as these disturbances disrupted its operations and led to production deferment which affected not only just the company but revenues accruing to the government and people of Nigeria.

This was contained a statement via e- mail  by Ndiana Matthew, Aiteo,s Spokesman.

According to him, a section of the Nembe Community , Bayelsa state converged without prior notice , on and barricaded the entrance to Aiteo,s logistics base interrupting normal work operations and ignored the intervention of the state security task force. And with protracted engagement with them, they agreed to disband and left behind representatives to present their demands to the company.

Part of the statement reads “Aiteo reiterates her commitment to continuing to work with her host communities to achieve an amicable relationship. Moreover, the Nembe community provides most of the supply , logistics and security contracts going into our local operations .
  • Apart from encouraging community participation in this manner, the company has in addition , continued to provide considerable amenities and services directly to the host community in most beneficial and impactful way. Hence, we remain open and are committed to constructive dialogue for the development of both the Nation and the community”

Matthew  further said , it takes several layers of engagement to get key deliverables to the community as the asset is operated under a joint venture with NNPC , therefore, key decisions must be made upon due consultation with all stakeholders.

  • Meanwhile, less than 24 hours after starting up the NCTL from repairs of identified leak points occasioned by activities of oil thieves , 2 new leak point were reported along the line near Awoba Riser manifold .

  • In an email sent by Aitoes, Spokesman  Ndiana Matthew , said their emergency repairs profile was immediately activated  and containment deployed to limit oil spread on bodies of water whilst efforts to identify cause of incident / repair has been initiated .

  • According to the statement ” Consequently , all injectors have been advised in accordance with NCTL shut down procedure to shut in production into NCTL immediately. Appropriate oil leakage / spillage notification Repairs will follow shortly to DPR/ NOSDRA “
