Aisha Yesufu slams Kano cross-dressing ban, says Bobrisky is a kid in the act compared with Kano folks

Rights activist Aisha Yesufu has knocked the Kano State government for banning movies depicting cross-dressing, saying it is hypocrisy.

“Crossdressers were all over Kano before Bobrisky was conceived;” she posted on X. “Bobrisky still has things to learn from the original ones in Kano who don’t need surgery to transform.

“Yeah, let’s continue with the hypocrisy and make it a new thing.”

The police clarified earlier in the week there is no current law in Nigeria that bans cross-dressing.

The Kano government announced the ban on Wednesday and also warned against movies containing thuggery.

Kano State Censorship Board Executive Secretary Abba El-Mustapha announced the ban after a meeting between the board’s management and Kannywood stakeholders.

“It is high time to fish out any film that may demoralize our customs, norms and values in the name of reaching popularity, viewers or business making,” the board’s Information Officer, Abdullahi Sulaiman, later explained in a statement.

He reiterated the board has the power to ban, suspend or prohibit the production, distribution, sale or exhibition of any film, pornographic books or publications in the state – and urged the public to provide information to the board on any film or publication that breaks state law.
