Aisha Yesufu insists YPP defectors to LP must get the ‘Rivers treatment’

Rights activist Aisha Yesufu says the two Young Progressives Party (YPP) members of the Abia House of Assembly who recently defected to the Labour Party (LP) must also lose their seats, to receive the same treatment a court meted out this week to 27 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers.
YPP Abia lawmakers Iheanacho Nwogu (Osisioma North State Constituency) and Fine Ahuama (Osisioma South State Constituency) on Tuesday defected to the ruling LP and were received by Governor Alex Otti, who leads the party in the state.
But Yesufu, an LP chieftain and staunch Obidient (supporter of Peter Obi, LP presidential candidate in the last election), criticised the move by the lawmakers.
“Hope they are ready to also lose their seats. This nonsense where people are voted on a party ticket and then decamp to join the ruling party needs to be punished by the law,” she posted on X (Twitter).
“You should have the right to decamp, but you must forfeit the seat you won on another platform.”
