Zainab Kassim, a former aide to the first lady Aisha Buhari, has filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja for the enforcement of her fundamental rights against Mrs Buhari.

Kassim, who was formerly a Special Assistant to the President in the Office of the First Lady, wants the court to award her N100 million as damages.

The other respondents in the case are the Inspector-General of Police and the Department of State Services (DSS).

Mrs Buhari’s former aide claimed that some DSS officers acting on the orders of the first lady abducted her and took her to the Presidential Villa where she was severely assaulted, dehumanised and abused by Mrs Buhari with the support of officers of the DSS and police for deleting her posts on social media.

In the suit with the number: FHC/ABJ/OS/202/2023, Mrs Buhari’s former aide asked the court to declare her arrest and detention as unlawful. The case has yet to be assigned to a judge.

The newspaper said it was unable to get reactions from the first lady’s spokesperson, Aliyu Abdullahi.

A similar incident occurred last year when Mrs Buhari got a university student arrested on campus and brought to Abuja for tweeting that she had grown fat by embezzling public funds.

Although the first lady dropped the case after initially taking him to court and getting a remand order, it was alleged that Mrs Buhari had the student, Aminu Mohammed, assaulted at Aso Villa.
