Ahmad, Buhari’s ex-aide, says FG must repay killers of 16 soldiers in Delta

Bahir Ahmad, former media Aide to ex-president Muhammadu Buhari, has said the Nigerian government must fish out and punish the killers of 16 soldiers in Okuoma community, Bomadi Local Government of Delta State.

He made the call via his X page on Saturday while reacting to the news of the death of the military men who were murdered by angry youths.

He noted that the late soldiers, which included officers and other ranks, were killed in a very gruesome manner.

He went on to urge the federal government to respond to the act by using the language the perpetrators understand. 

Speaking via his social media page, Ahmad tweeted: “Channels TV reported that some of the recovered soldiers’ corpses in the Okuoma community were said to have been beheaded while the stomachs and hearts of others were ripped off.

“Nigeria must repay it. Reply to the perpetrators with the language they will understand”

TheNiche had earlier reported that the Acting Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, in a statement, confirmed that 16 men of the Nigerian Army on a peace mission to the Okuoma in Delta State were ambushed and killed by youths in the community.

He also explained that those killed were the commanding officer, two majors, one captain and 12 soldiers.

The Nigerian Army spokesperson added that the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, had ordered an immediate investigation and arrest of those involved in the heinous crime.

Gusau said: “The troops of 181 Amphibious Batallion, Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State While on peace mission to OKUOMA community in BOMADI LGA of Delta State were surrounded by some community youths and killed on Thursday, 14 March, 2024. The unfortunate incident occurred  when the troops responded to a distress call after the communal crisis between the Okuama and Okoloba communities both in Delta State.

“The reinforcement team led by the Commanding officer was also attacked, leading to the death of the Commanding officer, two Majors, one Captain and 12 Soldiers.

“The Chief of Defence Staff ( CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa has directed the immediate investigation and arrest of those involved in the heinous crime. The occurrence has been reported to the Delta State Govt.”
