In what appears to be a test of the resolve of Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, to reclaim his State from the clutches of hoodlums and terrorists, gunmen on Friday killed one policeman in his hometown, Isuofia, in Aguata Local Government Area.

The incident occurred at the junction leading to the Governor’s house where security operatives erected a security post.

Angered by the idea of building security post at the junction, the hoodlums stormed the arena shooting non-stop, forcing residents to scamper for safety.

Soludo is said to be out of the country presently.

Today’s attack is the third by gunmen in Anambra State this week, the previous ones being the attack at Atani Police Station where four policemen were killed, while another attack at Nteje police station led to the death of one of the gunmen.

Gunmen had also penultimate week set ablaze the headquarters of Soludo’s local government, Aguata.

Recall that Governor Soludo, at his inauguration on March 17, offered the olive branch to the separatist groups and unknown gunmen, assuring them of his readiness to make peace.

On April 3, he decried the state of insecurity in the South East and the weekly sit-at-home which has impacted negatively on the economic fortunes of the state and the people.

Soludo asserted it was time to dialogue with everyone including all the actors engaged in the agitations. He recalled that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOP) had issued a press release to denounce the weekly sit-at-home, wondering why it was still being observed.

Governor Soludo advised anyone or group enforcing the order to desist from such or be treated as criminals. He called for the expeditious trial of Nnamdi Kanu, saying justice delayed is justice denied

He appealed to every group to lay down arms and come out for dialogue, promising to provide alternative means of livelihood through training and empowerment. He also promised to set up a truth and reconciliation commission that will be given a 6-month period to turn in their report

Soludo later set up the 15 member committee headed by Dr. Chidi Odinkalu to find a way of making peace with the agitators. The committee is yet to begin its work.

But apparently, the hoodlums are are not appeased.
