Afrobeats star, Rema meets Rwandan President, Kagame

Rema won two awards on Saturday at the 2023 Trace Music Awards in Rwanda with his hit song ‘Calm Down’

Afrobeats singer and songwriter, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema was hosted by Rwandan President, Paul Kagame at the presidential palace in Kigali on Sunday.

As seen in a now-viral video that made the rounds on social media platform X, the ‘Time N Affection’ crooner was seen speaking to an audience while the president who was with him on stage applauded his speech.

Rema had travelled to Kigali, the capital of Rwanda to attend the 2023 Trace Music Awards, where he won the Global African Artist of the Year and Song of the Year categories with his hit song ‘Calm Down’ on Saturday.

Speaking during his visit to the President, the music star said, “Coming to Rwanda, it gives me that vibe of a place I can rest and feel at home without having to travel overseas.

“A lot of time we just want to take that break, we just want to lay back… I feel like here we can have serene energy, that vibe. And I feel like it’s even going to be a bigger thing when we [Africans] start uniting.

“I must say thank you so much, Mr President.”
