Afe Babalola: Farotimi vows to fight charges, files counter-petition

By Ishaya Ibrahim

Human rights activist Dele Farotimi, said he stood by his claim made in the book ‘Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System,’ adding that he would vigorously defend every charge made against him.

Farotimi was arrested and slammed with criminal defamation in two separate courts in Ekiti over  alleged false information contained in his book.

The particular section of the book that triggered the fury of legal troubles against Farotimi bordered on Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Afe Babalola.

The police arrested him and arraigned him in two separate courts – one at a Magistrate Court in Ekiti and the other at a High Court also in Ekiti, aside at least three civil lawsuits against the fiery activist.

The charge filed at the Federal High Court, Ado Ekiti, by the Inspector General of Police was brought under Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act 2015 as amended.

But addressing Nigerians who stood by him following the travails that led to his incarceration for almost three weeks, Farotimi said he would vigorously defend every charge against him.

He made the comment during a live YouTube session on Sunday where he also notified his supporters that he would be writing his own petition too against those who tried to oppress him using the police and the judicial process.
