-

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has changed the kick off date of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) slated for Egypt in June.

The 24-team tourney, which was initially scheduled between June 14 and July 13, has now been moved to June 21 with the final set for July 19 in Egypt to make provision for Muslim players, officials and spectators to observe the Ramadan fast.

Harambee Stars will join 23 other nations at the 32nd edition of this continental showpiece after breaking a 15-year jinx to qualify.

Kenya currently tops Group “F” on seven points, one ahead of closest-challengers Ghana, whom they face in the final round on March 22 in Accra.

However, 14 nations have already booked their slot. Apart from Kenya, Ghana, noisy neighbours Uganda, Madagascar, Tunisia, Senegal, Morocco, Nigeria, Mali, Guinea, Algeria, Mauritania, Ivory Coast and hosts Egypt.

The Super Eagles will know the national teams they will come up against at the group stage of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations taking place in Egypt in June.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) in a communiqué approved the date for the draws for the 32nd African Cup of Nations in Cairo, Egypt.

The ceremony, which will take place in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, will see the 24 qualified teams drawn into six groups of four teams each, with the two top placed teams in each group, alongside the best four third placed teams, progressing to the Round of 16.

Egypt 2019 will be the first 24 team Africa Cup of Nations in history, with matches scheduled to be played in eight venues between 21st June and 19th July.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles have already booked a place in the finals, ahead of the final round of the qualifying matches scheduled for late March 2019.

Nigeria hosts Seychelles at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on March 23 in what is purely an academic exercise.
