Adeyemi varsity provost attributes upgrade to workers’ diligence

Provost of Adeyemi College of Education, now Adeyemi University of Education (AUE), Ondo, Professor Olukoya Ogen, has attributed the attainment of its university status to the hard work, sacrifice, and commitment of the staff.

“We are adjudged as the best college of education in Nigeria out of the 99 colleges of education,” he stressed, and the government “has upgraded our college to Adeyemi University of Education. This feat would not have been possible without your hard work, sacrifice and commitment.

“I felicitate with all of you. Rest assured, this is just the beginning.”

The long expected upgrade of the college finally became a reality following the approval by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on May 20.

The federal government had on July 20, 2010 disclosed plans to upgrade the college and three others to universities after a recommendation submitted by the then Education Minister, Ruqayyatu Rufai.

The other institutions upgraded are Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri; Federal College of Education, Zaria; and Federal College of Education, Kano.

They have been awarding Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degrees for three decades, and their upgrade is part of efforts to improve the quality of teaching in the country.

Ogen advised workers in the institution to constantly improve themselves by attending programmes that would help update their knowledge.

He gave the advice at a seminar in a speech delivered on his behalf by Akingbade Ikuejube, who doubles as the chairman of the committee of deans, and school of arts and social sciences dean.

He said regular training and re-training would enable them fulfill their goals in any department of the school where they work.

He commended staff of CHDC for organising the programme, which he said would help add value to the workers and increase their efficiency.

Acting CHDC Director, Obasoro Babasola, described the seminar as a life changing programme organised to help staff to maximise their potential in order to enhance their career advancement.
