Adamawa lawmaker calls for speedy release of FG grains

-

Alhaji Abdulrahman Abubakar, lawmaker in the Adamawa House of Assembly, has called for speedy release of grains approved by the Federal Government to cushion the effect of present hardship in the country.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari in April ordered the release of 10, 000 tonnes of grains from the National Strategic Grains Reserves to cushion the effect of poverty and hunger in the country.

The legislator representing Mubi South Constituency in Adamawa Assembly made the call on Tuesday in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola.

Abubakar observed that more than one month after the presidential directive, Nigerians were still waiting for the Ministry of Agriculture to act.

The lawmaker said that there was need to start releasing the grains without further delay.

He said that people from his constituency and other areas, particularly those affected by the insurgency, were excited by the directive and were full of expectation.

“My people and many Nigerians particular those in area affected by Boko Haram were happy about the presidential directive; they were full of expectation,” Abubakar said.

He stressed the need to embrace agriculture as a way out, following the high cost of foodstuffs.

Abubakar said that he supported 20 hard working farmers in his constituency with N100, 000 each to boost their farming activities this cropping season

“I am also planning to provide them with fertiliser apart from the financial support,” Abubakar said.
