Actor, Baba Ijesha tells judge to set aside his 5 years jail term two years after conviction

Baba Ijesha argued that he was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague

Embattled Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has told a Lagos Division of the Appeal Court to set aside his five-year jail term sentencing by a Lagos State High Court. 

The thespian, who is famous for his roles in Yoruba movies urged the appellate court to quash his conviction for sexually assaulting a minor.

TheNiche had two years ago, reported that Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court, on July 12, 2022, convicted the comic actor after he was found guilty of charges brought against him.

However, dissatisfied with the judgment of the lower court, Baba Ijesha approached the Appeal Court to challenge the term.

Speaking through his counsel, Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, he told the judge that he was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague.

“The appellant was set up. The appellant is an actor. He acted in a script that he was invited to act by his colleague (PW1), Damilola Adekoya,” Olabiran said.

Responding to the submission of the defendant, Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution, Babajide Martins, urged the court to dismiss the appeal for lacking in merit.

He went on to urge the judge to affirm the judgment of the lower court.
