Two of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions, Access Bank and Development Bank, are the latest socially responsible corporate bodies to throw their financial weight behind next month’s IAAF silver label Okpekpe international 10km road race which holds in Okpekpe near Auchi in Edo state.
Zack Amodu, the race’s director of organisation revealed on Tuesday in Lagos that the two banks have joined as Friends of the race.
“We are delighted that two of the leading financial institutions in Nigeria have decided to come on board as Friends of the race as we strive to deliver another world class event come May 12.I am particularly delighted that they have signed on to be part of the history that will be made in Okpekpe when the first ever IAAF silver label road race in Nigeria and West Africa will be staged on Nigerian soil.
“This is a big honour to Nigeria and we are glad God is using Pamodzi Sports Marketing to market Nigeria to the outside world as a safe place to be and a sporting destination of choice,’said Amodu who reveals the two banks will offer cash support towards the successfully organisation of the race.
“Access bank is not new to sponsorship of road race in Nigeria and we are delighted that a full service commercial Bank operating through a network of about 305 branches and service outlets located in major centres across Nigeria,Sub Saharan Africa and the United Kingdom has come on board as a friend of the 10km road race. The bank has come to identify with the pacesetting road race that organised the first label road race in Nigeria in 2015.”
Amodu is also thrilled Development bank which is set up to alleviate financing constraints faced by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and small Corporates in Nigeria through the provision of financing and partial credit guarantees has also identified with us as a friend of the race.
“This is unique as Development bank,Nigeria’s primary development finance institution; promoting growth and sustainability is supporting the first globally recognised road race in Nigeria. This will motivate us to organise a road race worthy of a gold label race on May 12 in Okpekpe,’Amodu promised.
