Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) was recognised as the ‘Best Bank in Nigeria’ during the 2015 Euromoney Awards held in London recently.
The Euromoney Awards for Excellence covers more than 20 global product categories, best-in-class awards, and the best banks in over 100 countries around the world.
It recognises institutions that have demonstrated leadership, innovation, and momentum in their markets.
In selecting recipients, Euromoney combines quantitative and qualitative data to honour institutions that have brought the highest levels of service, innovation, and expertise to customers.
Euromoney Magazine’s Editor, Clive Horwood, narrated that the “competition for the awards this year was tough, arguably the toughest it has been since the start of the global financial crisis.
“In winning this award, GTBank stands out not only because of its stellar performance but by its ability to define what its core strengths are, abide by these strengths and build its business around them.
“Banking in the future will be about what you do, as well as what you don’t do. GTBank stands out as Euromoneys’ best bank in Nigeria for its ability to adapt to local situations while maintaining international standards of best practice.”
GTBank Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Segun Agbaje, said “we are humbled and proud to be recognised as the Best Bank in Nigeria.
“For us, this award is an acknowledgement of the hard work and dedication of our staff, management and board.
“It represents our commitment to serving our customers and providing them with value oriented products and services suited to their varied needs.
“Our desire to always be at the frontier of excellence enables us remain relevant to our customers and add value to all stakeholders.
“Being the first Nigerian Bank to win this award seven years consecutively, outside of 2013, when we were recognised as The Best Managed Bank in Nigeria, is also an affirmation of our position as a proudly African and truly international institution.”
Access Bank won the Best Flow House in Africa accolade at the Euromoney Awards, the first time for an African bank.
The win is in recognition of the bank’s increasing transaction flows across Africa, particularly its dominance in the Nigerian financial markets.
According to Euromoney, the Best Flow House award honours firms that have demonstrated an ability to excel across the region in the key areas of foreign exchange (forex), equities, rates, and credit.
The winning firm must also have shown commitment to providing liquidity and pricing in all market conditions, as well as leadership in developing and integrating technology into sales and trading businesses, and research.
Access Bank Group Managing Director, Herbert Wigwe, reiterated that the award “is recognition of our regional expertise, and our continuing ability to provide customised currency and fixed income solutions to our customers across Africa.
“This award is an attestation of the bank’s determination to be the world’s most respected African bank by 2018”
Wigwe assured that Access Bank will sustain this growth momentum, noting that the award is an honour not only for the bank, but for Nigeria.
“This is just the beginning of more things to come for our bank.”
Euromoney Awards for Excellence, now in the 25th consecutive year, is the most respected awards in the financial services industry.
The awards, based on independently verifiable data, recognise institutions that have brought the highest levels of service, innovation, and expertise to customers.
