The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abia State, Don Norman Obinna, has warned that low membership registration among Igbos may cost Peter Obi the party’s presidential ticket.
He issued the warning over the weekend in Umuahia during the inauguration of executive members of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) for the Ikwuano, Umuahia North, and Umuahia South LGAs.
Speaking as a special guest at the event, Obinna urged party members in the State and other supporters of the former Anambra State Governor in the South-East to participate in the ongoing online e-registration to boost Obi’s chances.

According to him, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate may not win the party’s presidential primary unless he secures a high number of votes during the election process.
The ADC Chairman further noted that the current membership registration figures in the ADC show that approximately 400,000 people have registered in Abia State so far, while the figure for Adamawa State is approaching 1 million.
Obinna said: “It is not just about wanting Peter Obi to be President; the question should be: how do we deliver Peter Obi?
“Even in the ADC online registration, Abia has about 400,000 on the chart while Adamawa has about 1 million. If the primary election were conducted today, would Peter Obi win? That is my question.”
He went on to implore members of COPDEM and the ADC at large to drive sensitisation efforts and insist on good governance and quality leadership.
