Abdulrazaq after his election as chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) pledged to uphold the ideals and vision of the forum

Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, governor of Kwara, has been elected by his colleagues as the new chairperson of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF).
He succeeded the outgoing acting chairperson of the forum and governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal.
Announcing the development in a statement on Tuesday, Tambuwal said Abdulrazaq was elected by consensus and will be deputised by the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde.

While the Kwara state governor is from the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), his deputy, Makinde is a member of the major opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“We, members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), at our meeting held today, received briefings on various interventions, and issues of national importance and resolved as follows,” the statement reads.
“On the leadership of the Forum, the Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, emerged as the new Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum through a consensus, and the Governor of Oyo State Seyi Makinde is now the Vice-Chairman.
“Members expressed satisfaction with the success of the just concluded Induction for new and returning Governors that took place between the 14th and 19th of May, 2023. Members committed to sustained collaboration among the States through enhanced peer review, learning at the sub-national level and deepening the relationship with the Federal Government and other institutions.”
Meanwhile, the newly elected chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, has pledged to uphold the ideals and vision of the forum
Abdulrazaq gave the assurance in Ilorin on Wednesday, in a statement, where he also thanked his colleagues for the confidence reposed in him to lead the forum.
The statement read in part; “I want to thank Allah, exalted is He, for the historic event in which my brother Governors bestowed upon me the Chairmanship of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF).
“The significance and the huge responsibilities of this office are not lost on me.
“I hereby pledge to uphold the ideals and vision of the NGF whilst recognizing and appreciating the eminent track record of the institution as a most credible, authoritative, influential and effective inter-party platform for consensus building and peaceful resolution and advancement of pan-Nigeria goals, interests and aspirations.”
