Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has argued that President Bola Tinubu lacks the competence, capacity, and compassion required to move Nigeria forward.
He made this known on Monday, 27 October 2026, during the inauguration of the NDC national campaign council and a certificate-of-return presentation dinner held in Abuja.
Obi, who accused Tinubu of leading Nigeria into crisis and stated that everything is collapsing, also declared that Nigeria cannot be governed with the President’s current energy.
The former Anambra governor also asserted that Nigerians are looking for new leadership and assured them that he would deliver it.
He further promised that, unlike the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, his government would not allow 600 people to be kidnapped under its watch.

Speaking at the event, Obi said: “Tinubu has led this country into crisis; today everything is collapsing. From my engagements all over Nigeria, Nigerians are looking for new leadership, and we assure you that I will create that new leadership.
”Today, Tinubu is leading a government that lacks competence, a government that lacks capacity, compassion, and commitment to deal with Nigeria’s problems.
”And above all, Tinubu does not have the energy and resolve required for Nigeria today. Nigeria can’t be governed with his energy of today.
”Nigeria needs a president who is available, who will be there. If they say there is a problem in Jos, he will go to Jos.
”We will not be in government while people kidnap 600 and go to the bush; we will go into that bush with them.”
