FarmAll launches AI-powered farming platform on World Food Day

Nigerian agritech company, FarmAll Ecosystems Limited, has launched an artificial intelligence-powered farming platform designed to help farmers improve productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, and connect directly with buyers.

The platform, known as FarAI, was unveiled recently in October to mark World Food Day. It combines farm management tools, agricultural advisory services, and market-linkage features in a single mobile application.

According to the company, the platform is designed to support crop farmers, livestock keepers, and fish farmers, as well as traders, cooperatives, processors, and other players in the agricultural value chain.

The company’s founder, Samuel Akinyode, said the platform was developed to address challenges facing smallholder farmers, including limited access to agricultural expertise, poor market access, and post-harvest losses.

He said, “Food security will not be solved from the top down. It will be solved in the hands of the farmer.”

Akinyode added that FarAI brings agricultural knowledge, market information, and farm management tools together in one application, with advisory services available in English, Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo and Nigerian Pidgin

The company said the platform provides guidance on crop production, livestock and fish farming, pest management, weather conditions, planting calendars, and farm finances through voice and text interactions.

It also connects farmers with buyers, traders, processors, and cooperatives through its market-linkage services, which are intended to help farmers sell their produce and reduce waste.

Other features include farm budgeting and income tracking, feed and fertiliser formulation guidance, post-harvest management tools, and access to agricultural experts for online consultations or farm visits.

FarmAll said the platform also offers nutrition guidance to help users make informed decisions about the relationship between agricultural production and household diets.

The launch comes amid concerns about food losses, limited access to agricultural extension services, and the difficulties farmers face in reaching profitable markets.

The company cited estimates that Nigeria loses between 40 and 50 per cent of some perishable produce after harvest, although it did not specify the source of the figures.

It said FarAI was developed to help address these challenges by combining artificial intelligence with local agricultural knowledge and market access.

The platform is available for free download on the Google Play Store and can also be accessed through its website, farai.ng. While its core features are free, the company said a paid Pro plan offers access to additional tools, including the Formulation Lab and Post-Harvest Hub.

FarmAll said the application was designed for Android devices and low-bandwidth environments, adding that an iOS version was planned for release on the Apple App Store.

The company said the launch formed part of its broader mission to use technology to improve farmers’ incomes and strengthen food security across Nigeria and other African countries.
