Nigerian Christian minister, author, and television host Pastor Abel Damina has criticised clerics who collect “first fruits” from their congregations or tell them to give financially to the church in the name of “sowing seeds”.
The cleric, who is the Senior Pastor of Power City International, made this known while appearing as a guest on a recent episode of the WHOT podcast.
According to Damina, giving does not move God, because what we give back was provided by Him in the first instance.
He went on to argue that instead of giving “first fruits” and “sowing seeds” in church, Christians should focus on expressing their gratitude to God through praise and worship.

Speaking on the show, the pastor said: “All these sowing of seeds, giving to motivate God, and giving to move God—you can’t move God.
”It is the movement of God that even allowed you to have what you have today.
”What is ‘first fruit’? There’s nothing like ‘first fruit’ money. I know they do it every January, but it is wrong.
”In the New Testament, first fruit is Jesus. And in the Old Testament, first fruit pointed to Jesus.”
