Real Madrid manager José Mourinho has expressed his admiration for Brazil winger Vinicius Jr for opting to remain at the Santiago Bernabéu despite the disrespect he has suffered.
The Portuguese tactician made this known during his post-match press briefing ahead of Real Madrid’s game against Sevilla.
According to Mourinho, Vinicius’s decision to remain in the Spanish capital and La Liga, where he experiences a lack of respect, merits recognition, particularly as he endeavours to demonstrate his worth to detractors.
He asserted that he would have left the club during the summer transfer window had he been in the Brazilian forward’s position.
Mourinho said: “Vinicius is a spectacular guy, and it’s easy to have a good relationship with him.
”I spend a few minutes alone with him every single day. I value him tremendously because he always manages to get by, to survive, with a smile on his face.
”If I were [Vinícius], in his place, I wouldn’t still be here. Last summer I would have forced my exit to a league, to a country, to clubs and stadiums where they’d respect him.”

He went on to say the 26-year-old forward maintains a deep affinity for Real Madrid and his attachment to the city constituted a significant factor in his decision to remain.
”However, given his devotion to Madrid, his emotional connection to the club and the city, and his conviction that circumstances will continue to change favourably, he renewed his contract and preserves that positive outlook.
”I believe nothing and no individual possesses the capacity to diminish that enthusiasm for existence and professional engagement. He exemplifies an outstanding individual,” the Portuguese gaffer added.
Mourinho further elaborated that Vinicius Jr possessed multiple alternatives available to him during the summer period, should he have chosen to pursue a transfer.
