Nigeria in misery under Tinubu — ADC PCC tackles APC over Amaechi mockery
The Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned a statement by the All Progressives Congress (APC) spokesperson, Felix Morka, concerning former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, describing it as “a display of political cruelty” rather than an answer to Nigeria’s economic challenges.
The ADC PCC made the statement in a release signed by its Director of Strategic Communications, Phrank Shaibu, on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
The opposition group criticised Morka for allegedly mocking Amaechi over his claim that he struggled to afford medication for his late mother, saying the tragedy should not be used for political attacks.
“A mother’s death and a family’s grief should never be turned into material for partisan ridicule,” the statement said.
It added: “If Rotimi Amaechi says he struggled to afford his mother’s medication, the humane response is compassion. The political response is to ask why millions of Nigerians are also being priced out of medicines, food and basic necessities.”
The ADC PCC also took exception to Morka’s description of Amaechi as a loafer for struggling outside public office.
“Morka calls Amaechi a loafer for struggling outside public office. That insult says more about the APC’s contempt for ordinary people than it says about Amaechi,” the statement said.
The group argued that millions of Nigerians were experiencing similar difficulties, insisting that those unable to afford healthcare, electricity and safe transportation should not be blamed for their circumstances.
“Nigerians who cannot afford treatment, keep the lights on or travel safely on their roads are not loafers. They are citizens living through the consequences of a government that has failed them,” it said.
The ADC PCC further accused the Tinubu administration of failing to address worsening conditions across the country.
“The reality is plain: the roads are bad, the economy is bad, electricity is bad, security is bad and the welfare of the people is bad,” it said.
The group added that “Tinubu’s name is increasingly associated with poverty, insecurity and hardship,” arguing that political attacks would not erase the challenges confronting Nigerians.
It also challenged Morka to explain the condition of Nigeria’s roads, particularly in the South-East.
“Instead of sneering at Amaechi, Morka should explain why Nigerians face dangerous journeys on roads meant to connect communities and support trade,” the statement said.
“The roads in the East, the region he comes from, are in such a deplorable state that travelling on them feels like taking a route to Lucifer’s kingdom.”
The ADC PCC questioned how long Nigerians would continue to endure dangerous journeys before the government acknowledged the state of the nation’s roads.
“How many overturned trailers, near-collisions and desperate journeys must Nigerians endure before this government admits that the country’s roads are in crisis?” it asked.
The group also criticised the APC over government spending, arguing that Nigerians were yet to see adequate improvements in infrastructure, healthcare and electricity.
“The APC cannot boast about trillions in public spending while Nigerians lack safe roads, reliable electricity and affordable healthcare,” the statement said.
“It cannot blame one politician’s personal circumstances for hardship being felt in homes across the country.”
According to the ADC PCC, the performance of a government should be judged by the living conditions of citizens rather than the attacks made by its political representatives.
“The test of government is not how viciously its spokesmen can insult their opponents. It is whether people can live safely, afford treatment and earn a decent living. On that test, Tinubu’s government has failed,” the statement said.
The group called on Morka to account for the APC-led administration’s performance while urging respect for Amaechi’s family.
“Morka owes Nigerians an explanation for the government’s record. They owe Amaechi’s family the respect that grief deserves,” it said.
The ADC PCC also urged Nigerians to view the 2027 general election as an opportunity to change the country’s political direction.
“And Nigerians owe themselves the resolve to make 2027 a turning point, so that the poverty and insecurity associated with Tinubu’s rule do not become the country’s future,” the statement added.
