Ex-Kogi gov Ibrahim Idris dies in UK
Former governor of Kogi State Ibrahim Idris has died at the age of 77.
Idris died on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in the United Kingdom.
Though details regarding the latest development are still sketchy, family sources said Idris had suffered protracted illness.
In a statement, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo condoled with the former governor’s family.
Ododo described the deceased as a man who made meaningful contributions in politics and business.
The governor also recalled his last meeting with the late Idris in March 2024 during a visit involving political stakeholders from Omala Local Government Area.
Following his death, Governor Ododo; former Governor Yahaya Bello; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abdullahi Bello; and other top government officials visited the deceased’s residence in Abuja to condole with his family.
Onogwu Muhammed, Special Adviser to the Governor of Kogi State on Public Relations and Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Yahaya Bello, disclosed the visit in a Facebook post on Sunday, accompanied by photographs of Ododo and Bello at the residence.
Idris served as governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2012, first taking office in May 2003 and serving a second term after the 2007 election. He was succeeded by Idris Wada in January 2012.
