Nigerian singer-songwriter, actor, and TV show host Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has reacted to comments made by former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo about him and his late father, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa.
Obasanjo recently sat down for what viewers described as a candid, generational conversation in the latest episode of Isbae U’s podcast, Curiosity Made Me Ask.
At one point during the session, the former president got emotional while speaking about Charly Boy’s late father, describing him as one of the few Nigerians he truly held in high esteem.
He further noted that he wished the veteran singer had taken after his father.

Speaking about Charly Boy on the show, Obasanjo said: “Ah, he has a good father. Oh, Justice Oputa. Oh, what a great man.
“How I wish Charly Boy had resembled him. Oh, I wish. Oh, that man was one of the few Nigerians I respect when he was alive.”
Reacting, Charly Boy shared a clip of the interview on his verified X handle on Saturday, 19 September, and captioned it with just six words: “And OBJ wept for Charlyboy.”
However, after the post made the rounds online, it elicited mixed reactions from netizens who flooded the comments section.
While some X users hailed the bond between the two men, others insisted Obasanjo got emotional while talking about Charly Boy’s father, Justice Oputa, and not the singer.
