​United States President, Donald Trump, has appointed Dr Karl Von Batten—a lobbyist for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar—as a commissioner on a White House presidential commission.

​This was announced on Thursday, 3 September 2026, by Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C. in a now-trending post shared on X.

​Atiku hired Batten’s Washington-based lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C., in March 2026.

​The former Vice President signed a 12-month retainer, valued at $1.2 million, with the company.

​Confirming Batten’s appointment in the statement, the firm noted that the presidential decision ‘represents a tremendous honour and reflects Dr Von Batten’s longstanding commitment to public service and leadership.’
