2027: I’ll be first politician they’ll come after if Tinubu loses — Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said he expects to be among the first politicians targeted by the opposition if President Bola Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election.

Wike said his outspoken support for Tinubu’s re-election has placed him in the line of fire, particularly as opposition figures, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, seek to unseat the president.

The minister spoke during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, on Wednesday.

According to Wike, his unwavering backing for Tinubu has made him a marked political target, but he said he had no regrets about his position.

“I will be the first politician that I think they will come after. I will be the first politician. I know they will come for my head,” he said.

Wike acknowledged the political risks associated with his support for Tinubu but insisted that he would continue to confront those opposed to the president.

He said his primary focus remained securing Tinubu’s victory in the 2027 election, regardless of the personal consequences.

“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s reelection. When I am eating, I think about the president’s reelection. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s reelection,” he stated.

The FCT minister also dismissed criticism over his political alignment with Tinubu, saying he had endured intense attacks because of his position.

“I don’t see where anybody in this country today has been called names the way my name has been. I am not bothered about people who say their [own] thing. My business is, like I said, I am going to support Mr President,” he declared.
