Chioma Oniniwu retracts earlier rape accusation against footballer Victor Ebele

“Victor did not rape me. He is not a rapist. His brother was not involved in what happened between us.” Those were the latest statement of Chioma Oniniwu, more than a year after claiming that Singaporean-based Nigerian Footballer Victor Ebele had raped her.
She shared a video on Monday, August 31, 2026, apologizing to the accused and his family for tarnishing his image through this allegation.
On September 9, 2025, Chioma had taken to her X account to accuse Victor of raping her, alleging that the family was covering up for him.
At the time, she claimed that she was pregnant for him and, hence, wasn’t taken seriously by the police.
Her public statement had received criticism and outrage from many users after an unverified screenshot of text exchange between both parties was shared online. The screenshot had suggested that they had consensual sex, contrary to what she had claimed. Despite this development, no resolution was shared.
However, a few days ago, a year after the accusation, Chioma posted an apology letter on her page, apologizing to Victor and his family for the accusation she had made against him. She stated that the allegations were driven by the fear of being alone after finding out that she was pregnant.
“I was pregnant, overwhelmed by fear, and deeply afraid that I would be afraid to face the pregnancy and everything that came with it alone. I was under immense emotional stress and did not handle the situation the right way”
She further apologized to the Nigeria Police Force for raising false alarms and disrupting order during that time. She then urged media outlets, who had posted about her allegations, to take down the news, reiterating that it was fabricated.
Some sources reported that she had been arrested last week Wednesday and was recently granted bail, as well as an order to issue a public apology.
However, her arrest has not been verified yet.
Her confession has gained traction online, sparking outrage among many users who insist that she face legal consequences for her actions.
