British broadcaster and former England striker Gary Lineker has recanted his earlier prediction of the margin by which Arsenal will win the English Premier League (EPL) title after watching Chelsea and Manchester City win their matches over the weekend.
He made the adjustments to his forecast in the latest episode of The Rest Is Football podcast.
Chelsea’s attacking trio of Cole Palmer, João Pedro, and Morgan Rogers appears particularly formidable, having netted seven goals against Fulham and Brighton, although they have faced challenges defensively, conceding five goals.
Meanwhile, Manchester City, who narrowly defeated Bournemouth in their opening match, returned to dominant form on Friday night, decisively thumping Crystal Palace 4-1.
Arsenal, for their part, emerged as the fourth team to record two wins from two matches following their 1-0 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park on Monday night.
However, prior to the Gunners’ encounter at Villa Park, Lineker had said they would defend their title this season and win it comfortably by a 10-point margin.

Following the weekend games, the former Tottenham Hotspur forward said he has changed his mind, adding that while Arsenal would still win the trophy, they would not do so by as much as 10 points.
According to him, Chelsea and Manchester City have stepped up their game and will give Arsenal a run for their money this season.
Speaking on the show, Lineker said, “When comparing the top attacking trios this season, it will be difficult to beat Chelsea.
“City are another strong contender. Arsenal, having won the league last season, are undoubtedly a top team, but their strengths may lie in other areas of the squad.”
He added: “Manchester City possess significant attacking power. Enzo Maresca has made a commendable start.
“I stated last week that Arsenal would win by 10 points – I have changed my mind.
“I believe City and Chelsea could challenge them closely, but my opinion on the title remains unchanged. I still consider Arsenal to be the favourites.”
