The family of the late publisher of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, has announced September 10 and 11, 2026, for the funeral ceremonies of the journalist. Oladipo died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the age of 56.
According to a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), Ms. Kemi Yesufu, a service of songs will be held at DayStar Church, Oregun, Ikeja, on Thursday, September 10. The burial service will take place at the same venue on Friday, September 11, after which the deceased will be laid to rest.

Oladipo served as President of GOCOP from 2017 to 2021 and was one of the founding members who contributed to the development of the association during its formative years.
Reacting to his death, the current GOCOP President, Danlami Nmodu, described the passing of Oladipo as a painful loss to the Guild and the Nigerian media industry.
Nmodu said the deceased played a significant role in establishing GOCOP as an important platform for online publishers in Nigeria.
“Dotun played an important role in the development of GOCOP. He led the Guild for four years at a time when there was still a lot of work to be done to establish online publishers as an important part of the media. His contribution will always be remembered,” he said.
The GOCOP president also praised Oladipo for combining his experience as a journalist with his understanding of the business of publishing.
“Dotun understood journalism and he understood the business of publishing. He was passionate about the place of online media in Nigeria and he gave his time to the growth of the Guild. We are saddened by his passing,” Nmodu added.
Oladipo was also a member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors and the International Press Institute, Nigeria, and remained active in efforts to advance the online publishing industry in the country.
His death has continued to attract tributes from colleagues and stakeholders in the Nigerian media community, who have remembered him for his contributions to journalism and online publishing.
In his condolence message to the bereaved family and media profession, Plateau State governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, described the late Dotun Oladipo as an ace journalist and a towering figure in the media industry, whose immense contributions to journalism helped shape public discourse, promote democracy and good governance, and project a positive image of Nigeria before the international community.
