Workman Oga’s film “Through Her Lense” nominated for Directors Guild of Nigeria Awards 2026

Nigerian conscious musician and filmmaker, Amb. Willie Workman Oga, popularly known as Willie Workman, has scored another major recognition as his short film, Through Her Lense, gets nominated at this year’s Directors Guild of Nigeria Awards.

The nomination recognises Workman’s commitment to using arts and storytelling to drive social change globally.

Through Her Lense tells the story of Ehi Ekonu, a teenage environmental photo activist whose passion for the planet pushes her advocacy beyond expectations. The film highlights youth leadership, environmental education, climate action, and the power of visual storytelling in sparking conversations around environmental protection.

The story is inspired by Anu The Photo Girl, an award-winning Nigerian teenage environmental photographer known for using her camera to document climate issues and advocate for a cleaner, greener Nigeria.

Reacting to the nomination, Workman said the film was made for young people who doubt their ability to effect change.

“This film is for every young person who believes they are too small to make a difference. Ehi’s story is real, it’s urgent, and it’s Nigerian. To be recognised by the Directors Guild of Nigeria for telling stories that matter means a lot. We must use our lenses,  cameras, music, and voices to heal our world,” he said.

The Directors Guild of Nigeria Awards celebrates excellence in directing and filmmaking across Nollywood and independent cinema. The 2026 edition will spotlight films that promote cultural values, social impact, and creative innovation.

Through Her Lense adds to Workman’s growing portfolio of global awards recognition as both a musician and filmmaker who centres purpose-driven narratives. Known for music and films that speak to justice, peace, community, and the environment, he continues to position Nigerian stories on global platforms.

Workman is a Nigerian conscious musician, filmmaker, and social impact advocate whose work in music and film explores issues affecting people and the planet. Through Her Lense, inspired by the real-life work of Anu The Photo Girl, follows Ekonu as she uses a camera to challenge systems and inspire a movement.
